Suspect device in Monaghan non-viable, gardaí say

A suspect device discovered in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan last night was found to be non-viable.

Reports of the device emerged yesterday evening and gardaí began investigating.

The services of the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were requested and a cordon was established in the Muckno Street area of the town.

However, gardaí confirmed this morning that the device was found to be non-viable.

It has since been removed from the scene for further ballistics and technical examination.
