Police say the 45-year-old man who was killed in Belfast on Sunday night was stabbed 11 times and suffered a fractured skull.

Father-of-two Ian Ogle was attacked on the street close to his home in Cluan Place by a group of at least five men.

The victim was well known in loyalist circles and although the UVF in east Belfast has said it was not responsible for the murder, the involvement of loyalist paramilitaries is one line of inquiry.

The PSNI says there was an altercation outside a food takeaway on the Beersbridge Road shortly before the killing, and it is seeking to establish the chain of events between this incident and the fatal assault.
