Watch: Civilians wrestle weapon from London Bridge suspect

Footage from London Bridge has emerged showing civilians helping police to detain and disarm the attacker.

The video, taken from inside a vehicle on the bridge, shows several people surrounding the man, who is on the ground.

One civilian, dressed in a suit, emerges from the huddle holding a large knife.

It appears that he has taken the knife from the supposed attacker and is attempting to remove it from the scuffle.

The footage goes on to show armed police arriving. The civilians are moved away from the immediate scene, as police circle the suspect, who is on the footpath.

Several officers holding guns are seen restraining and circling the man. There still appears to be one civilian on top of the man.

The last civilian then runs out of the way before a police officer fires a shot at the alleged attacker.

A gunshot can be heard in the clip.

It has now emerged that the suspect died at the scene after being shot by police. He had been wearing a device, which police confirmed was a hoax device.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said that ordinary Londoners demonstrated "breath-taking heroism" in disarming the knife-wielding attacker.

"What's remarkable about the images we've seen is the breath-taking heroism of members of the public who literally ran towards danger not knowing what confronted them," Mr Khan said, adding that man had been wearing a fake bomb.

"Members of the public didn't realise at the time that was a hoax device, and they really are the best of us," he said.
