LG has launched a new flagship smartphone that it claims has a far brighter screen than rivals, making it easier to see in sunlight.

The LG G7 ThinQ also has a number of new artificial intelligence powered features on its camera.

The device will also be one of the first to get upcoming Google Lens features that allow users to search using AI and computer vision and which delivers more information on objects such as landmarks, plants, animals, books as well as identifying text.

The phone will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip and will have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

The design of the G7 ThinQ features a polished metal rim and Gorilla Glass 5 front and back.

The display is a 6.1-inch QHD screen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Its bottom bezel is almost 50% slimmer than on the LG G6.

The top of the screen has a notch similar to the iPhone X, but the graphics can be manipulated to fill the space around it if desired.

The superbright screen has six settings for different viewing modes.

Imaging has also been upgraded, with the main camera now a 16MP sensor and an 8MP unit on the front.

There are now 19 different shooting modes, up from eight previously.

In the audio department, the device has a Boombox Speaker which uses internal space as a resonance chamber to deliver double the bass of conventional smartphones, LG says.

When placed on a solid surface or box, the smartphone utilises its resonance chamber as a woofer to amplify the bass effect even more, the manufacturer claims.

The device enters a crowded market, with the Samsung Galaxy S9, iPhone X, Huawei P20 and Sony XZ2 all vying for attention from high-end buyers.
