A child-friendly version of the popular YouTube video sharing app has launched in Ireland.

YouTube Kids will feature content tailored for children in Ireland and the UK as well as content generated here.

It also has an interface designed for use by children, and a voice search function for children who cannot yet read and write.

The company also says it is a safer family-friendly version of the YouTube app, with channels and playlists in categories including shows, music, learning and exploration.

It also has a number of parental control features, including the ability to adjust search settings, a timer to automatically limit the amount of time kids spend on it, a passcode and it does not have to be tied to a YouTube account.

More than 10 million people have downloaded the kids version of the app in the US since it launched there in February of this year.

The apps is available for both Android and iOS.
