Date to be set for Waterford murder trial next week

A trial date for a 35-year-old man accused of murdering Waterford woman Gillian Curran is to be set next week.

Ms Curran, who was 47 and from Tramore, was found unresponsive at a house on O'Brien Street in Waterford city by emergency services shortly after 10am on 25 January 2025.

She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Marcus O'Neill of O'Brien Street in Waterford city is charged with her murder.

Ms Justice Karen O'Connor adjourned the case until 11 June for mention.

A date is then expected to be set for the trial to open before the Central Criminal Court in Waterford.

Senior Counsel for the prosecution, Conor O'Doherty told the court today that it was likely that the trial would begin on either 22 June or 29 June.

The trial will take place before a jury at Waterford Courthouse and is expected to last around two and three weeks.
