A group of teenage Sea Scouts rescued a swimmer who got into difficulty in Dublin Bay this afternoon.
Just after 2pm the Irish Coast Guard operations centre received an emergency 999 reporting a person trapped under the wooden bridge at Dollymount Beach.
Both the Coast Guard and the RNLI were dispatched to the scene.
However, the Sea Scouts from 5th Port, Dollymount were carrying out a training course and witnessed the swimmer in difficulty
The Coast Guard said the Sea Scout arrived promptly by boat and took swift action to assist the swimmer.
A spokesperson for the Coast Guard said: "Thanks to their training and leadership, the scouts rescued the swimmer from under the bridge and brought them safely to shore. No further assistance was required."
"This incident truly reflects the leadership and preparedness we emphasise in our training," said a scout leader from 5th Port Dollymount.
