Driver and pedestrian killed in separate crashes

Two men have died in separate road traffic inicidents in Longford and Galway within 24 hours.

A man in his 60s died following a single-vehicle crash at Tyrur, Newbridge, Ballinasloe, Co Galway this morning.

The incident occurred at around 9.45am this morning.

The man, who was the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the mortuary at Portiuncula Hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They are also appealing to road users who have camera or dash-cam footage, and were travelling in the area between 9.30am and 9.50am this morning, to make it available by contacting Ballinasloe Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.

Meanwhile, a man in his 80s died after being knocked down in Longford town.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident involving a car and a pedestrian on Earl Street at around 10am yesterday.

The man was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he died yesterday evening.

Gardaí have appealed for information and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

They have made a particular appeal for road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam footage, who were in the area between 9.45am and 10.15am yesterday to make it available to gardaí.
