A man has been taken to hospital following a suspected arson attack on a house in Waterford city.
Gardaí were alerted to the fire at the property in the Larchville area at around 2.50am.
Members of the National Ambulance Service and Waterford City Fire Service also attended the scene.
It is believed that a petrol bomb was used to break a downstairs window and the property was subsequently engulfed in flames.
A man, aged in his 50s, managed to escape from the property. He was taken to University Hospital Waterford for injuries that are currently believed to be non-life threatening.
However, extensive damage was caused to the house and it is understood the man's three dogs perished in the fire.
The scene was preserved to allow gardaí to carry out a technical examination.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
They particularly want to speak to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Larchville area of Lisduggan Big in Waterford city between 2am and 3.15am this morning.
Anyone with video footage from the area during this time, including CCTV and dash-cam footage, is asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
