Minister describes mock-up of Russian nuclear attack destroying Ireland as 'deeply disturbing'

The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform has described the mock-up of a Russian nuclear attack destroying Ireland as "shocking" and "deeply disturbing."

Michael McGrath said "it will be for Minister Coveney and the Department of Foreign Affairs to consider what is the most appropriate diplomatic response."

Speaking as he arrived for a Cabinet meeting at Dublin Castle, he said "of course it was disturbing to see a whole country and indeed our neighbours wiped out in a simulation of that nature and broadcast on national TV is shocking and is deeply disturbing."

Minister McGrath said "to see that in such a flippant manner, the number of people whose lives would be just wiped out in an instant, is just shocking to be honest."

"I think it just underlines the nature of what we are dealing with and the threat that Russia is currently posing as perpetrated in the war in Ukraine."
