A new opinion poll suggests support for political parties remains relatively static a year on from the formation of the Government.

The Ireland Thinks poll for the Sunday Independent suggests Sinn Féin has the most support among those surveyed at 20%, down 2 percentage points from 19 December, followed by Fianna Fáil which is unchanged on 18% and Fine Gael which is up 1 point to 18%.

The poll also suggests Independents and Others are unchanged on 11%; the Social Democrats unchanged on 10%; Aontú unchanged on 6%; Independent Ireland up 1 to 6%; Labour unchanged on 4%; Solidarity-People Before Profit unchanged on 4%; and the Green Party up 1 to 3%.

Meanwhile, the same poll also suggests the individual popularity of the five biggest parties political leaders remains within 8% of each other.

The poll suggests Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns has an approval rating of 39%, down 3; Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin 36%, up 5; Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald 34%, down 1; Fine Gael leader Simon Harris 33%, up 1 percentage point; and Labour leader Ivana Bacik 31%, down 3.

The poll of 1,248 people was taken on 30 January, and has a margin of error of +/-2.8%.
