Former EU Commissioner and Vice President of the European Parliament Mairead McGuinness has said that she will make a decision by next month as to whether she will run for Áras an Uachtaráin.
Speaking on RTÉ's Upfront with Katie Hannon, she said: "I'll make a decision by May of this year."
Asked if she had had discussions with Fine Gael colleagues, she said she had finished up in December after 20 years working in European institutions, describing it as a big decision.
"It's one of those jobs that they say isn't powerful, but it is impactful."
She said she had looked before for the Fine Gael nomination and would not rush into it lightly.
