The Minister of State with responsibility for Disability has said it is "obviously concerning" how some people are using artificial intelligence deepfakes to create abusive videos of politicians.
Speaking to reporters at Leinster House, Hildegarde Naughton was asked about reports of recent fake AI videos of a different female politician in Ireland.
While not discussing the specific case, Minister Naughton said it is "obviously concerning" how modern technology could be used to target individuals.
The Fine Gael TD said while she is "always trying to encourage women into politics", she is aware of "female politicians and the level of abuse they get".

Speaking at the same event, Minister for Equality and Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley said the threat of online abuse now means "the world is in a different place to a few years ago".
Minister Foley said while AI can be positive when used in the right way, there are concerns about how it could be misused and that education is the most important way to address any issues.
