Social Democrats deputy leader Cian O'Callaghan has confirmed that the party's national executive has decided to "indefinitely suspend" TD Eoin Hayes, backing an earlier decision of the parliamentary party.
The action was taken after Mr Hayes confirmed he had sold shares in the company Palantir, which supplies artificial intelligence tools to the Israeli military, one month after he was elected to Dublin City Council.
Previously he had told journalists that he had divested shares in the company prior to becoming a Social Democrats politician.
Speaking at Leinster House, Mr O'Callaghan said there was no time limit on when the party's decision would be reviewed or specification on how Mr Hayes could return to the party.
He denied that the Social Democrats were hoping that Mr Hayes, who was elected to the Dáil for the first time last November as a TD for Dublin Bay South, would resign from the party.
