Tánaiste Micheál Martin has met Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan at the Ireland-Wales Forum in Cork.

They met at Munster Technological University (MTU), where they were briefed on research projects on the marine environment, ecotourism and heritage.

The Ireland-Wales Forum aims to deepen political and economic relationships between the two countries.

The first minister met President Michael D Higgins in Dublin yesterday.

Today, Minister Martin and First Minister Morgan visited Cyber Ireland's new, state-of-the-art facility at MTU to hear of its collaboration with Wales.

In a joint communique issued this afternoon, the two ministers said their discussions focussed on their shared ambitions for the Ireland-Wales bilateral relationship, including proposals for an Ireland-Wales Shared Statement post-2025.

The communique said they emphasised the importance of continued focus on deepening partnerships between Ireland and Wales, and broadening co-operation into new and emerging areas of importance for both sides.

The first minister also met with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Eamon Ryan in Dublin yesterday.
