Former Fianna Fáil minister of state Terry Leyden has been appointed Honorary Consul for the Republic of Azerbaijan in Dublin, with jurisdiction for Ireland.
Mr Leyden first entered politics 50 years ago when elected to Roscommon County Council in 1974.
He was chosen as a TD for Roscommon-Leitrim in 1977 and held various junior ministerial portfolios.
Mr Leyden then spent 18 years in the Seanad, retiring in 2020.
On the nomination of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, IIham Aliyev, he has been appointed Honorary Consul for the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He received his official document from His Excellency Ambassador Elin Suleymanov, Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland (non-resident), in the Embassy of Azerbaijan in London on Friday 31 May 2024.
