Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald has said she spoke to the party's housing spokesperson following controversy over a Tweet he posted at the weekend and was "happy that the matter had been clarified".
On Saturday, Eoin Ó Broin posted an image of a famine era eviction, which was reworked to include private security officers and gardaí.
At the time, Mr Ó Broin defended his social post, saying the image, which is based on a 19th century painting, was designed by Dublin artist Mála Spíosarí.
He had posted "No words needed" above the image.
Today Mr Ó Broin said that it was not his intention to "offend, criticise or drag An Garda Síochána into a political controversy".
This afternoon, the Dublin Mid-West TD said he had a "very positive phone conversation" with Antoinette Cunningham, General Secretary of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors.
In a tweet, he said his intention was "solely to highlight the issue of homelessness/evictions & criticise Govt policy".
Ms Cunnigham said the phone call offered "important and welcome clarity", which she will communicate to association members tomorrow.
She added that she believed Mr Ó Broin was genuine and sincere.
Ms McDonald said it was always Mr Ó Broin's intention to make contact with Ms Cunningham.
She said he was "very happy that the matter had been clarified" saying everyone relies on An Garda Síochána to keep communities safe.
"They have a very difficult job to do. Criticisms of Government policy and the trauma of eviction have to be articulated but we have to be very clear that the gardaí have to do their job," she said.
It comes after fresh criticism for the tweet from Minister of State with Responsibility for the OPW Patrick O'Donovan, who said the post sent "a shiver down" his spine.
Mr O'Donovan said ordinary people are revulsed and disgusted by attacks on unarmed gardaí who are serving the State and swear an oath to uphold the law with fairness and integrity.
"There's a very, very, very obvious issue here and it is the politicisation or the potential politicisation of an independent sworn Garda Síochána by a future, potential Sinn Féin Minister for Justice."
Speaking on RTÉ's Today With Claire Byrne, Mr O'Donovan said there can be "no absolute way" in which the gardaí can be politicised and Sinn Fein should reflect on this.
Minister for Justice Simon Harris described the tweet as "offensive, inappropriate and disrespectful to the men and women of An Garda Síochána".
He contended that the post "... shows what they [Sinn Féin] really think of the Gardaí.
