Independent Senator Eileen Flynn has said that she is not planning on running for a seat in the Dáil in the next General Election.
She said it is still very difficult for Travellers to get elected by civil society and that she would not want to set herself up for failure.
Senator Flynn joined Aisling Kenny for a special edition of the Your Politics Podcast to discuss the lack of women in politics, despite the introduction of gender quotas.
She talks about her life growing up on a halting site, her passion for equality, breaking down barriers in the Traveller community and her experience as the first Traveller woman to be elected to the upper house.
Senator Flynn opens up about losing her mother and biggest role model at the age of ten, which she said changed her life.
