A young Irish man and a Czech woman have been killed in a road crash in Thailand.

He has been named locally as Max Hendrickson from Cabra in Dublin.

The 20-year-old was named Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year 2023 at the Fresh International Film Festival and was well known in his local area.

Mr Hendrickson was a student in his second year at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

It is understood he was travelling on a scooter with his girlfriend in Thailand when the crash happened.

Labour TD Marie Sherlock said neighbours and friends are devastated by what has happened and are supporting the family.

She said: "I have just become aware of this tragedy today my heart goes out to the family.

"I understand that he had an incredible future as a filmmaker ahead of him, and our thoughts are with the family."

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is providing consular assistance to Mr Hendrickson's family.
