This is the case even if Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil fail to win any the by-elections on Friday.
In that scenario, the Government would still have a majority of two votes.
This is provided that former Fine Gael TDs Peter Fitzpatrick and Denis Naughten vote with the Government, along with Independents Michael Lowry and Noel Grealish.
This would leave the figures at 58 in favour of Government to 56 against, with 43 Fianna Fáil TDs abstaining.
If there are wins for Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael in the by-elections that would reduce the opposition numbers further.
However, there is one key question: Can the Government rely on those Independents who usually back them in these confidence motions?
This evening, I understand that some of those Independents are "soul searching" and they don't relish the prospect of supporting the Housing Minister.
And that means the next few days could prove to be very worrying for the Government.
