John Bailey, a Fine Gael councillor on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, has died.
Mr Bailey had been ill for some time. He was 74 years old.
He was a former chairman of Dublin GAA County Board for a decade and was well-known in GAA circles where he was a member of the Cuala GAA club in Dalkey.
He lived in Killiney in south Dublin and he was first elected a councillor in 2004. He served as a councillor for 15 years and he was re-elected at the 2009, 2014 and 2019 local elections.
Mr Bailey unsuccessfully contested the 2002 and 2007 general elections. He was also unsuccessful in three bids to get elected to the Seanad in 2002, 2007 and 2011.
His daughter Maria, has been a Fine Gael TD for the Dún Laoghaire constituency since 2016.
She is the current chair of the Oireachtas Housing Committee.
Mr Bailey is survived by his wife Angela and their five daughters Suzanne, Elaine, Maria, Joanna and Allison and their families.
