Fine Gael TDs and senators from rural constituencies have voiced their anger and concerns over the Mercosur trade deal.
Senator Michelle Mulherin said tonight that there are huge levels of hypocrisy around the debate on the agreement.
The senator from Mayo said beef farmers are being asked to take one for the team while others are claiming that they are saving the world.
The issue was also raised at tonight's Fine Gael Parliamentary Party meeting in Leinster House.
The Minister for Business and Enterprise, Heather Humphreys told the meeting that balanced international trade was important.
She said too that much more work needs to be done before the final agreement takes shape several years from now.
