Fine Gael Louth TD Peter Fitzpatrick has said he will meet his team over the weekend to decide if he will contest the next general election as an independent.
Five weeks ago, Mr Fitzpatrick had indicated that he would not be contesting the election for Fine Gael.
The Times Ireland Edition reported that he would make a statement next week about his intentions.
Mr Fitzpatrick opposed the referendum on the Eighth Amendment.
Separately, Fine Gael has said that Deirdre Duffy will join Paschal Donohoe on the party's general election ticket in Dublin Central.
She was added to the constituency ticket a meeting of the party's Executive Council last night.
Ms Duffy recently served as Campaign Manager for the Together for Yes campaign and is a qualified barrister.
She was also a deputy director of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties for ten years.
