Former GAA president Liam O'Neill has said that he is considering running in the upcoming Presidential Election.
The Laois native is currently weighing up his options and will decide if he is to contest the October election after this weekend.
He said he has been contacted in the last few days and asked to seriously consider running.
He said: "I am taking soundings at the moment. I feel under no pressure as people have come to me and asked me to seriously consider it. I said I would do that and that is what I am doing."
Mr O'Neill was the 37th president of the GAA from 2012 to 2015.
He added: "I have talked to some friends in politics and people with experience at elections, particularly European elections as a Presidential election is different to a Dáil election.
"I am listening carefully to what people are saying and I know that there are political realities to be consider. Aspiring is one thing and achieving is another."
The recently retired teacher added: "I am going to make my mind up and decide after the weekend".
If he is to enter the race he will need to seek the support of four local authorities or 20 members of the Oireachtas in order to secure a nomination.
