Kevin 'Boxer' Moran is to remain as Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, the Independent Alliance has said this afternoon.

It follows talks today between Minister Moran and fellow Independent Alliance TD Sean Canney.

It had been thought that Sean Canney was seeking to have the Ministry rotated again.

The pair tossed a coin on the role when the Government was formed two years ago.

The Independent Alliance has agreed that he will remain in that post even though Mr Canney had thought he was in line to get the job back, given that the Government is about to enter its third year in office.

Minister Moran said there were no votes taken at today's meeting and Mr Canney did not indicate to him that he may consider leaving the Alliance.

Mr Canney has yet to comment publicly.

His vote is essential for the Government as he is one of the core group of 57 that supports the minority administration.

A statement from the Deputy Government Press Secretary earlier said Minister Moran "will be continuing in that role for the remainder of the term of this Government".
