Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is to visit Ireland next Tuesday, the Dáil has been told.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar told the house that Mr Trudeau and his family will be making the trip.

During Taoiseach's Questions Mr Varadkar said he looked forward to renewing the long-standing bonds of friendship between Ireland and Canada.

Mr Varadkar said both countries had a lot in common, including a commitment to free trade, multilateralism, personal freedom and liberty.

Former taoiseach Enda Kenny met with the Canadian leader during a visit to Canada last month.
