Young musicians in Co Clare have been invited to take part in a series of traditional music sessions called Trad 4 Teens.

Clare Arts Office said the monthly sessions will provide a welcoming, safe and alcohol-free environment for teenagers to gather, learn and play music.

The initiative was originally developed by Claire Watts and ran successfully in Ennis from 2005.

Its relaunch will offer young players the chance to take part in authentic session settings, guided by experienced musicians, while developing skills such as leading tunes and playing as part of a group.

Clare Arts Officer Siobhán Mulcahy said the relaunch of Trad 4 Teens comes at a time that the county is seeing an upsurge in young musicians looking to partake in music sessions.

"Trad 4 Teens is a safe and welcoming space which builds the confidence of these musicians of the future," she said.

The first session takes place at Inagh Community Centre on Friday, April 24 from 7 to 8.15pm, with sessions planned for the last Friday of every month.
