A woman who pleaded guilty to stealing more than €300,000 from TV chef Martin Shanahan, owner of the award-winning Fishy Fishy restaurant in Kinsale, Co Cork, is to raise compensation by selling a property, the Circuit Criminal Court in Cork was told today.
Legal counsel for Nessa Gilsenan, of Copper Beech House, Mellifontstown, Kinsale, who was an employee of the restaurant, also told Judge Helen Boyle that the 52-year-old had a bank draft of €15,000 in court today to be handed over towards compensation.
Gilsenan first appeared in court in March 2025 where she faced 132 charges relating to theft, and the submitting of false documents relating to the staff payroll system to make gain for herself, between 2017 and 2022.
The sums she stole ranged from €82 to €1,650; in 2017 she dishonestly appropriated over €26,000; in 2018, almost €55,000; in 2019, over €75,000; in 2020, over €63,000; in 2021, almost €69,000 and in 2022, almost €15,000.
Judge Boyle adjourned sentencing in the case until 4 November next to allow for the sale of the property.
