A man in his late 30s has drowned after getting into difficulty on a section of a river near Mallow in Co Cork this evening.

Gardaí and the emergency services responded to a call to the popular fishing location at the River Blackwater at Dysart, Dromagh, at around 7pm.

The man was recovered from the water shortly afterwards by members of Cork County Fire Service.

Gardaí said the man's body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.
