Multiple buildings evacuated after gas leak in Cork city

A number of offices and buildings were evacuated near City Gate in Mahon, Cork this morning following a confirmed gas leak.

The leak, which has been described as serious, has since been isolated, and is undergoing repair.

Cork City Fire Service said that while the main road from Mahon leading to the Lee Tunnel remains closed this lunchtime, everything is "back to normal".

The alarm was raised just after 11.30am.

Three units of the Cork City Fire Service, as well as gardaí remain at the scene with local traffic diversions in place.

The leak was in an above ground gas-related infrastructure.

The fire service used water spray to reduce flammability once the leak was identified.

The supply has since been turned off and is now undergoing repair by a team from Gas Network Ireland.

The Cork Dogs' Home was among a number of buildings evacuated, including nearby offices.
