Drugs worth estimated €32.8m, two firearms seized in Cork

Gardaí have seized drugs worth an estimated €32.8 million in an operation at the port of Cork.

Gardaí said 546kg of a synthetic drug were recovered at the port.

The drugs involved are believed to be crystal meth.

Two firearms were also seized during follow-up searches in Tralee, elsewhere in Kerry, and in Cork.

Two men, aged in their 40s, were arrested in connection with the seizure and are being held at a garda station in the southern region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

It is understood there are significant international elements to the drug smuggling which has been uncovered.

The detection was a result of from the work of the divisional drugs team in Kerry and local detective units.
