A man has died following an incident on an Uisce Éireann, formerly Irish Water, construction site near Muckross, in Co Kerry yesterday.
The man, who was in his 50s, was airlifted to Cork University Hospital yesterday morning but died at around 8pm last night.
The Health and Safety Authority confirmed today that it had opened an investigation into the incident, but said no further information is available at this time.
In a statement this afternoon, Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) confirmed the death of the man, who was working at their site on behalf of a contractor.
It said: "It is with deep regret and sadness that Uisce Éireann confirms that a man working on behalf of our contractor who was attending a water infrastructure construction site in Co Kerry has passed away, following a workplace accident on Monday.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, work colleagues and friends of the deceased at this very difficult time.
"Uisce Éireann are liaising with the Health and Safety Authority and relevant authorities in relation to this incident. We can't make any further comment at this time."
