Four children and an adult were rescued after a boat capsized off the coast of Knockadoon Head in Cork this afternoon.
The five were on two small sailing boats, which were blown offshore during heavy winds.
As the group attempted to return to shore one of the boats capsized and the emergency services were alerted by a member of the public.
The Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre in Dublin tasked the local Coast Guard unit with the rescue and all five people were safely brought ashore.
Two lifeboats, as well as Rescue 117 helicopter from Waterford, took part in the operation and the ILV Granuaile, which was in the area at the time, also assisted.
