The High Court has granted leave for a judicial review of the decision of Cork City Council to proceed with the development of flood relief works at Morrison's Island in Cork city.

The review was sought by the Save Cork City campaign and Seán Ántóin Ó Muirí.

The Office of Public Works has been developing a flood relief plan for the entire Lower Lee system to include relief works in the city in response to the increasing threat of flooding in Cork city.

Last year the council decided to initiate its own project to construct a portion of the OPW scheme at Morrison's Island in the city.

There was some opposition to this proposal following a public consultation.

However the plan was approved by the council in May by 22 votes to six.

This led to today's proceedings seeking to have that decision overturned. The case returns to court in October.
