A murder investigation is under way into the death of a woman in her 60s who was fatally assaulted in Dundalk, Co Louth.
Her body was found on Wednesday evening at a house on Bridge Street in the town.
A post-mortem examination was completed yesterday. The results are not being released for operational reasons.
A murder investigation has now commenced and the scene at Bridge Street was sealed off.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room set up in Dundalk Garda Station.
A family liaison officer has also been appointed.
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau spent a number of hours carrying out forensic examinations of the scene earlier.
Gardaí also made door-to-door inquiries in the area around the property where the discovery was made.
