An investigation is under way after a human bone was discovered on a County Louth beach.

The bone is believed to be a femur and was found in Baltray yesterday evening.

It was removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

A forensic anthropologist has carried out a formal examination of the bone, and gardaí are awaiting the results of this.
