A 25-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of a pedestrian in Monaghan three years ago.
Ceara Nolan, with an address at Cara Street, Clones, Co Monaghan, yesterday pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing death before Monaghan Circuit Court and a jury was sworn in to hear the case.
Today, Ms Nolan was rearraigned before the court and pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing death, but guilty to careless driving causing the death of Elizabeth McGoldrick at Clonavilla, Clones, on the 8 April 2023.
The court heard the plea was acceptable to the prosecution.
Defence counsel James McGowan SC for Ceara Nolan told the court that she asked him to say she was "very sorry for what happened".
Prosecution barrister Frank Martin said that the family of Elizabeth McGoldrick are "greatly relieved with this development" and that it "greatly assists them in obtaining closure and moving on".
The court heard that Ceara Nolan is a social worker with no previous convictions.
The jury was discharged and Judge John Aylmer remanded Ceara Nolan on bail and ordered the preparation of a probation report.
The case was adjourned until October.
