Pipe bomb found in Drogheda made safe

A viable device found in Drogheda, Co Louth has been made safe by the Army bomb disposal team.

The pipe bomb, which did not explode, was found at St Mary's Cottages in Sunnyside.

Gardaí were alerted, who in turn requested assistance from the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.

They arrived at the scene at 2.45am.

A number of houses were evacuated while the device was made safe.

The scene was declared clear of explosives at 4.20am.
