An elderly man has died in a road crash in Co Kilkenny.

Sean Nolan, who was in his 80s, died after his car hit a pole at Coolcullen sometime between 7pm and 8pm yesterday.

His body was removed to University Hospital Waterford.

The man was alone in the car and there were no other vehicles involved.

The road remains closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Mr Nolan's death was among five on the roads as four men died in a crash in Donegal.

Ten people have died on Irish roads since Thursday.
