She was discovered with serious injuries in her home at Grange Heights on Monday evening.
The 43-year-old mother-of-three was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Tomas Marvanek, of Grange Heights, Waterford city, appeared before a special sitting of Waterford District Court.
Detective Garda Seán Lane, of Waterford Garda Station, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

There was no application for bail as the district court does not have the jurisdiction to grant such an application.
A vigil for Yveta Donovalova outside her home tonight

Judge Kevin Staunton granted this and the solicitor's further request for the future services of a Czech translator.
The judge remanded the accused in custody to appear before Waterford District Court again on Tuesday via video link.
Mr Marvanek, who was dressed in all black, had the proceedings of the brief hearing translated to him.
Vigil held for Yveta Donovalov in Waterford city
A vigil in memory of Ms Donovalova has taken place outside her residence in Grange Heights in Waterford city.
Ms Donovalova, who was originally from Czechia, had been living in Ireland for almost two decades and was well-known in the locality.
In recent days, she has been remembered locally as a kind person and a hard worker.
Ms Donovalova worked as a cleaner and had been employed by many other residents in the housing estate where she lived.
Tonight, those who gathered in Grange Heights paused as they remembered their friend and neighbour.
Some lit candles and laid flowers outside her home while others were visibly upset.
The organisers of the vigil said Ms Donovalova was known for her "kindness, warmth, and friendly spirit".
They said they were deeply saddened by her tragic death.
The organisers said that at this difficult time, they stand together and "will support one another, and honour Yveta's memory".
