Tickets for next year's Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Co Limerick, which were made available for residents of Ireland, sold out in under an hour today.

A limited number of general admission daily tickets went on sale to residents of the island of Ireland for the three match days - from 17 until 19 September - at a cost of €499 per daily ticket.

Practice day and weekly tickets which were also available in the exclusive Irish window sold out in under four hours.

More than 150,000 people from across the country had pre-registered for early access, with a limited number of tickets available on a first come first served basis from 11am.

Those unsuccessful in this window will have a second opportunity to purchase general admission daily tickets in the full public ballot which opens to fans from around the world on 3 June.

At least 60,000 people in Ireland were queueing online today to buy the tickets, with some fans reporting technical issues with the process.

Despite many fans saying they successfully secured tickets, some reported technical issues with the online sales process including the website crashing and being booted from the system once they reached the top of the queue.

A message displayed by organisers to some people queuing on the website acknowledged the ticket ballot was "experiencing technical difficulties" and said they were working to fix the issue.

A spokesperson for Ryder Cup Europe said: "We are aware of a handful of individual user issues but there are no widespread technical problems with today's sale.

"Indeed, tickets have been selling at anticipated levels given Irish fans' renowned enthusiasm for golf and the Ryder Cup."

Meanwhile, the European Tour Group's Chief Ryder Cup Officer described the demand for tickets from fans across Ireland as "unprecedented".

"We know that Irish golf fans are amongst the most enthusiastic in the world and this is yet another reminder of that," Richard Atkinson said.

"We also look forward to the start of June when, in addition to Irish residents getting a second chance, fans from around the world will get their opportunity to be part of this great sporting occasion."

The most expensive general-admission daily tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup was at a cost of €499 - a record high for the event in Europe.

However, tickets for practice days earlier in the week were available to buy from €89.

The 100th anniversary of the Ryder Cup will take place at Adare Manor in Co Limerick from 13-19 September next year.

It will be the second time the Ryder Cup has been held in Ireland, following The K Club in 2006.
