Man, 31, dies after suspected stabbing in Cork city

A man in his 30s has died after a suspected stabbing incident in Cork city this evening.

It is understood the 31-year-old man managed to make his way back to his apartment in Camden Court in Carroll's Quay having been stabbed in the Shandon Street area of the city at about 7.30pm.

The emergency services were called to the property.

However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a local GP.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination. The man's body remains at the apartment.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been contacted.

A post-mortem examination will determine the course of the garda investigation in to the man's death.

Gardaí have commenced door to door inquiries in the area.

CCTV from the area will also be harvested.

In a statement to RTÉ News, gardaí said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious incident near Knapps Square, Cork city, this evening.

"At this early stage, no additional information will be available tonight."
