RTÉ has issued a tender with an estimated value of €30 million for the provision of technical support services for the RTÉ Player.

The contract will run for a seven-year period from 2028 onwards.

The tender states that RTÉ is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified suppliers to provide technology solutions and services to support the continued operation, evolution, and support of RTÉ's video streaming products.

"This tender is a repeat tender and these services and/or products have been purchased previously under other contracts," the document states.

A spokesperson for RTÉ said its investment in the RTÉ Player has seen it go from strength-to-strength in recent years.

"RTÉ has a contract with Fincons Group until the end of 2027 for the vital provision and support of the core video backend systems for RTÉ Player, as well as the creation, maintenance, and evolution the RTÉ Player applications," the spokesperson said.

"These services have enabled continuous product improvements and major performance gains.

"RTÉ is now seeking to move forward with a procurement process for equivalent services from January 2028 onwards, for a seven-year term.

"This process is part of RTÉ's roadmap for the continuous development of RTÉ Player. Under this tender we will work with the successful vendor to deliver important enhancements and new functionality," he added.

RTÉ said last year was another record year for the RTÉ Player which recorded a new all-time high of 155 million streams, representing year-on-year growth of 9%.

"As outlined in RTÉ’s New Direction strategy, consistent with evolving audience needs, our ambition is that RTÉ Player will continue its evolution to be a locally relevant, world-class, streaming experience that is fast, increasingly personalised, and uniquely Irish - combining live broadcast reliability with deep on-demand discovery and curation, offering audiences more than 7000+ hours of content," RTÉ said.
