Entry level jobs in the technology sector are beginning to be impacted by growth in Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to a report by the Department of Finance.

The study said sectors of the economy which are more exposed to AI are showing signs of weaker employment growth.

The Department said that Ireland is more exposed than other advanced economies on average.

It said that as a result Ireland may be among the first countries where the effects become measurable.

Job advertisements from recruitment company Indeed show that 11% of postings mention AI, up from 4% in November 2023.

This is three times the share of both the EU and US.

The report said Ireland is placed fifth in the world in terms of the concentration of AI talent.

Minister for Finance Simon Harris said that the Irish labour market has shown "remarkable resilience in recent years".

"We are now entering a period of profound technological change. We must also ensure that workers and firms are equipped to adapt," he said.

"This means investing in skills, supporting life-long learning, and continuing to roll out enterprise supports that help firms adopt and deploy new technologies," he added.
