The Government is to increase the amount of money available to small businesses affected by Storm Chandra which cannot get flood insurance from €20,000 to €100,000.
The increased payment request was sought by Minister for Enterprise and Fine Gael TD Peter Burke, RTÉ News has learnt.
It will be signed off by Cabinet in the coming days, potentially during an incorporeal meeting before the weekly Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The funding from the humanitarian emergency aid fund is currently limited to a €5,000 initial payment and up to €20,000 in additional payments.
However, as part of the changes this latter figure will be increased to up to €100,000.
The money will be available only to small businesses and groups which can prove significant flood damage and which cannot receive flood insurance.
The fund was previously increased after Storm Babet in 2023.
Minister Burke said: "In recognition of the significant rainfall over last number of days, we've decided to increase the humanitarian aid fund for our businesses to €100,000.
"This will support bringing premises back to their pre-flood condition," he said, adding this is "a huge challenge right now".
