Four women were killed in separate incidents on Irish roads yesterday.

A driver, two pedestrians and a cyclist were killed in counties Wexford, Clare, Meath and Tyrone.

A pedestrian aged in her late 20s died after she was struck by a car in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened on the R702 in Curraghgraigue at around 3pm.

The woman was taken to Wexford General Hospital in a serious condition where she later died.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, received medical assessment at the scene.

The road was closed for technical examination but later reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with camera footage, including dashcam, from the area between 2.30pm and 3.30pm yesterday to come forward.

A woman in her 60s, who died after being hit by a car while out walking in Co Meath, has been named locally as Theresa Morgan.

The incident took place on the Dublin Road just south of the Nine Milestone Roundabout at around 7.10pm yesterday evening.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital Navan, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The driver and passenger of the car, both men in their 20s, were taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, with non-life threatening injuries.

Local Independent Councillor Joe Bonner said the community in Ashbourne and neighbouring Donaghmore has been left "shocked and numbed".

He said: "There is huge shock and sadness. People are numbed, and people are in disbelief as to what happened and how it could happen on a bright summer's evening.

"I know the community will give whatever support they can to the family at this time and help them out."

Mr Bonner added: "The lady was very well respected. The family are very well-known and well-regarded throughout the community. They're involved in the GAA club and all the other clubs around the area.

"It's really, really tragic. We hope to be able to support the family."

The scene in Tulla, Co Clare, after a cyclist in her 70s died after being struck by a tractor

Yesterday afternoon, a cyclist aged in her 70s died after being struck by a tractor at Toonagh in Tulla, Co Clare, at around 12.45pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

It is understood the woman was an overseas visitor who had been among a group of cyclists touring the area by bike when the collision occurred.

There were no other injuries reported.

Separately, an 82-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle collision outside Omagh yesterday afternoon.

Bernadette (Bernie) Cranley, from Lifford in Co Donegal, was the driver of a silver Toyota Vitz, which was in collision with a blue Suzuki Vitara on the Mellon Road at around 12.30pm.

The other driver, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

The Road Safety Authority has urged drivers to be "mindful" of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

Aoibhinn Twomey of the RSA urged motorists to "stay alert" and "slow down".
