Tens of thousands of plane enthusiasts travelled to Co Wicklow today for the first day of this weekend's Bray Air Display.

The event is now in its 16th year and is taking place over two days this weekend.

On its first day in perfect conditions, tens of thousands of people travelled from across Ireland to witness the daredevil acts.

Among the groups to take to the skies today were Jordanian Air Force group The Falcons, older planes from World War II, and an RAF-flown Lancaster bomber supported by the Irish Air Corps.

Today's event also included a memorial in remembrance of local Bray resident Sinéad O'Connor, who died last week in London.

Tomorrow's free festivities will begin at 3pm, with among the biggest crowd catchers likely to be the world-renowned Red Arrows.
