Microsoft has announced additional job cuts which could result in up to 70 redundancies at its Irish operation.

In February, the company said it would cut 120 jobs from its Irish-based workforce as part of a global cost-cutting plan.

In March, a further 60 redundancies were announced.

Commenting on this latest round of layoffs, a Microsoft spokesperson said that organisational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing its business.

"We will continue to prioritise and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners," the spokesperson said.

It is understood the final number of layoffs may be lower than 70, if workers are redeployed to other parts of the operation.

Microsoft employs around 3,500 people in Ireland across a variety of roles including operations, sales, engineering and product development.

There has been a series of job loss announcements in the tech sector since the end of last year at firms such as Twitter, Meta, Stripe, Amazon, Intel, Google, Salesforce, PayPal, HubSpot and Dell.
