Taxi-booking service Free Now has said it will introduce a €1 fee to all journeys completed with the app from 1 August.

The company said the so-called "technology fee" is being implemented to allow Free Now to "invest in technology improvements that will allow us to extend our product offering for passengers".

Free Now is also preparing for the introduction of new services in the app, such as eBikes and eScooters.

The fee is per journey and independent from the trip duration and number of passengers.

Drivers will not be in receipt of any part of the technology fee.

The National Transport Authority is also planning to implement a 12% fare increase in September.
