President Michael D Higgins has paid tribute to Olympic gold medal winner Kellie Harrington after her lightweight boxing final win in Tokyo.
"My warmest congratulations to Kellie Harrington on winning her gold medal at the Olympic Games," he said.
"Hers is an exceptional achievement, and she is an inspiration for us all."
Taoiseach Micheál Martin also congratulated the Dublin city boxer, saying it was a "brilliant fight".
"Your family community and country overjoyed for you," he wrote in a social media post.
Also on Twitter, fellow Olympic gold medal winner Michael Carruth said he was "so happy and proud this morning".
"Enjoy the celebrations, welcome to the club champ," he wrote.
Green Party TD and Minister for Sport Catherine Martin said Ms Harrington's win was the perfect end to the Olympic games.
"A truly proud day for Ireland," she said.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald said Ms Harrington "represents everything great about being Irish".
In a tweet, she said the Olympic champion has shown "true courage, brilliance and humility".

The Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar, described the win as "an incredible moment for Irish sport".
